1. Introduction

ReadClub ("ReadClub," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of families and children who use our services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you access or use the ReadClub Platform and related services (collectively, the "Services").

ReadClub is designed for children to use under the direction of a parent or legal guardian (a "Parent"). A child user is a "Learner." If you are using ReadClub through a school or educational institution, additional terms may apply under our Teacher and School Administrators Addendum and any applicable school agreement.

By using the Services, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account and Parent Information

When a Parent creates or manages an account, we may collect:

• Email address
• Password (stored using industry-standard hashing)
• Account preferences and settings
• Subscription, billing, and transaction details (processed by secure payment processors)
• Customer support communications

2.2 Learner Profile Information

Parents may create one or more Learner profiles. Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect:

• Child’s first name (or nickname) and/or profile identifier
• Language preferences and learning settings
• Age range or grade level (if provided)
• Assigned classes or groups (if applicable)

2.3 Reading Progress and Learning Data

We collect information about how Learners use the Services to provide progress tracking and personalized learning features, which may include:

• Books read, pages accessed, and reading activity
• Reading time and session participation
• Words practiced and learning progress metrics
• Feature usage (e.g., Read Aloud, Voice Tutor, Live Sessions)

2.4 Voice Recordings (Read Aloud and Voice Tutor)

When a Learner uses Read Aloud or Voice Tutor, ReadClub may create audio recordings of the session ("Voice Recordings"). Voice Recordings may include the Learner’s voice and speech, as well as related session context (such as the book, language, and activity).

2.5 Live Sessions and Class Recordings

If you enroll in a live class or session ("Live Session"), we may collect participation information (such as attendance and engagement) and may create a recording of the Live Session ("Class Recordings"). Class Recordings may include video, audio, on-screen shared materials, and chat content (if applicable), depending on the session format.

2.6 Device and Technical Information

We automatically collect certain technical information to help operate and secure the Services, such as:

• Device type, operating system, and browser type
• IP address and approximate location (derived from IP)
• Log data (pages viewed, timestamps, error logs)
• Identifiers used for authentication and security

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Services
• Create and manage Parent and Learner accounts and profiles
• Deliver reading content and educational features
• Generate personalized learning experiences, progress reports, and adaptive features
• Support Read Aloud and Voice Tutor features (including building pronunciation profiles and providing pronunciation feedback)
• Provide access to replays and instructional review for Live Sessions (where enabled) and support educational use
• Provide customer support, troubleshoot issues, and respond to requests
• Promote safety, enforce policies, prevent fraud and abuse, and secure the Services
• Comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of ReadClub, our users, and others

4. Voice Recordings and Class Recordings

4.1 Voice Recordings: Purposes and Access

Voice Recordings are used for the limited purposes described in our Terms of Service, including to:

• Build a personalized pronunciation profile and adapt learning experiences over time
• Generate progress reports and learning insights
• Provide pronunciation feedback and educational support
• Allow Parents to review a Learner’s progress
• Review sessions for quality improvement and educational purposes
• Operate, maintain, improve, and secure the Services, provide customer support, and comply with legal obligations

If your account is affiliated with a school or educational institution, authorized teachers or school administrators may also access Voice Recordings for enrolled students to support educational goals (for example, to review progress and provide feedback), subject to applicable law and any school agreement.

4.2 Class Recordings: Purposes and Access

Class Recordings are created to support educational use, including to:

• Allow enrolled Learners and Parents or legal guardians to view a replay of the session
• Allow instructors or facilitators to review the session for instructional, quality, training, and safety purposes
• Operate, maintain, and improve the Services, provide customer support, enforce policies, and comply with legal obligations

Some Live Sessions may be hosted by multiple instructors, facilitators, or partner organizations acting on behalf of ReadClub. In those cases, Class Recordings may be accessible to the relevant instructors or organization personnel and not limited to a single individual.

If your account is affiliated with a school or educational institution, authorized teachers or school administrators may also access Class Recordings for enrolled students to review sessions, monitor participation, and support educational goals, subject to applicable law and any school agreement.

4.3 Retention and Deletion

Voice Recordings: We retain Voice Recordings for up to 90 days after the applicable session, unless we delete them sooner as described below or must retain them longer for legal or compliance reasons.

Class Recordings: We retain Class Recordings for up to 90 days after the applicable Live Session, unless we delete them sooner as described below or must retain them longer for legal or compliance reasons.

We may delete Voice Recordings or Class Recordings earlier than 90 days if: (i) a Parent requests deletion of their Learner’s personally identifiable information, or (ii) we determine in good faith that removal is appropriate to protect privacy or safety, or to address violations of our Terms of Service or policies.

Marketing Use: We will not use Voice Recordings or Class Recordings containing identifiable audio or images of a Learner (or Parent) for marketing or promotional purposes without prior explicit consent from the Parent or legal guardian.

4.4 How to Request Deletion

Parents may request deletion of their Learner’s Voice Recordings or Class Recordings by contacting support@readclub.co and including:

• The Parent account email address
• The Learner’s name (or profile identifier)
• For Class Recordings: the class name and date/time (or other identifying details)

We will review and process deletion requests within 30 days, subject to applicable law and our legal obligations. Please note that deleting recordings may affect personalized features (such as pronunciation profiles and progress reports) and may limit replay availability for Live Sessions.

5. Children’s Privacy (COPPA) and Parental Controls

ReadClub is designed for children and follows applicable children’s privacy requirements, including COPPA. We generally:

• Require a Parent or legal guardian to create and manage the account
• Collect only the information we need to provide educational Services
• Provide Parents with the ability to review, update, and request deletion of their child’s information
• Do not sell children’s personal information or use it for behavioral advertising

6. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We may share information in limited circumstances, including:

• Service Providers: Vendors who help us operate the Services (for example, hosting, payment processing, customer support tooling). These providers are required to protect the information and use it only to provide services to ReadClub.
• Schools and Educator Organizations: If your account is affiliated with a school, authorized educators may access student data and recordings as described in the Terms of Service and applicable agreements, subject to applicable law.
• Legal and Safety: When we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, protect safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or enforce our Terms and policies.
• Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, where information may be transferred as part of the transaction.

We do not share children’s personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

7. Data Storage and Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. These may include encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring for suspicious activity. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Some progress and preference information may be stored locally on your device (for example, using browser storage). If you clear your browser storage or device data, some locally stored information may be removed.

8. Data Retention (Other Than Recordings)

We retain account information for as long as an account is active or as needed to provide the Services. We may retain certain information for legitimate business purposes (such as maintaining transaction records) and to comply with law.

Reading progress data stored locally on your device may be automatically cleaned after 180 days (for example, certain older local entries), as described in our Terms of Service. You may also be able to clear locally stored data through your browser or device settings.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of certain personal information. Parents can also request deletion of their Learner’s information as described above.

10. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies (including local storage) to support essential site functionality, authentication, preferences, and performance. We do not use these technologies to serve behavioral advertising to children.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies or clearing storage may affect certain features.

11. International Data Transfers

ReadClub is operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. We take measures designed to protect information consistent with this Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy and update the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy means you accept the updated policy.
