Voice Tutor: Our Promise to Families

Designed Alongside Child Development Experts and Child Psychologists.

Voice Tutor was created to help children talk about the books they read, practice speaking in multiple languages, and build understanding in a way that feels safe, encouraging, and age-appropriate. Everything about Voice Tutor is guided by one simple principle:

Children learn best when they feel safe to practice, not monitored or pressured to perform.

1. A Safe Space to Practice Speaking

Voice Tutor is a practice space, not a test and not a performance dashboard.

Children use Voice Tutor after finishing a story to:

  • Talk about what happened
  • Explore characters' feelings
  • Practice speaking in another language
  • Try out ideas without fear of being "wrong"

There are:

  • No scores
  • No grades
  • No evaluations

Children develop emotional and cognitive skills by trying out thoughts in low-risk environments. Research in child development shows that reflection, pretend play, and story-based discussion are essential tools for learning how to name emotions, understand others, and reason about situations. When children feel constantly evaluated or monitored, they shift from exploration to performance. This system is designed to preserve that exploratory space while still giving adults appropriate signals to offer support.

Mistakes are a natural part of learning, and Voice Tutor treats them that way.

2. Child-Centered Psychological Safety Comes First

Children need semi-private spaces to practice expressing thoughts they don’t yet understand.

Voice Tutor is designed to:

  • Stay focused on the story your child just read
  • Ask children about the characters in the story

Voice Tutor does not:

  • Ask children to share personal details
  • Pressure children to share real-life problems
  • Ask children about their personal lives
  • Encourage secrets
  • Replace parents or caregivers
  • Diagnose or label children's emotional health

We designed Voice Tutor this way to help children:

  • Practice speaking in a safe and supportive environment
  • Speak more freely
  • Build confidence
  • Enjoy reading and language learning

Examples of what your child might experience with Voice Tutor:

“That part was exciting! What do you think the character was feeling right then?”

Kid: “I want to go to the beach.”

Voice Tutor response: “Let’s stay with this story for now! What was your favorite part?”

Kid: “The character feels scared when grown-ups yell.”

Voice Tutor response: “That does sound scary. In the story, what helped the character feel better?”

We focus on helping children practice language skills, grow their voice and thinking, while helping adults to support them wisely.

3. Privacy by Design, Not Secrecy

Voice Tutor respects children's sense of privacy with realistic expectations. It stays anchored in the story, using characters and moments as a safe way to explore ideas and emotions.

By default, for parents:

  • Conversations are not shared word-for-word
  • Full audio recordings are not shared with parents. Audio is analyzed for insights personalized for your child and then deleted.
  • There is no live listening to Voice Tutor conversations

We keep honesty with your child as well:

  • We do not tell children that their conversations are “secret.”
  • Children are never made to feel watched or monitored.
  • This balance helps children feel comfortable speaking while keeping families informed and supported.

4. Parents Receive Support Signals, Not Surveillance

We know parents want to help their children, not spy on them.

Read Club provides high-level insights by default, such as:

  • themes your child talked about in the story (for example, bravery or kindness)
  • general emotional tone (for example, excited or thoughtful)
  • engagement level during reading discussion

These insights are designed to:

  • help you notice patterns over time
  • spark gentle conversations at home
  • support your child without breaking trust

5. Clear Choices Around Sharing

We do not provide full transcripts or recordings. Instead, we share high-level insights so you can support your child without interrupting that trust.

When insights are available:

We may provide gentle signals to parents if we notice patterns of concern over time. This may include:

  • Repeated expressions of fear/distress
  • Explicit mentions of harm or danger
  • Patterns over time, not single comments

In this case, we may provide gentle signals to parents:

“We noticed repeated discussions of fear or distress during story conversations. You may want to check in gently with your child.”

Voice Tutor never quietly turns practice into probing or surveillance.

We do not diagnose or label children's emotional health.

6. Honest, Age-Appropriate Explanations for Kids

If a child asks how Voice Tutor works, it will answer truthfully and simply.

Examples of what we might say:

Kid: “Can my parents listen to my Voice Tutor conversations?”

Voice Tutor response: “This is your space to talk about the story. Grown-ups don't hear everything we say, but they sometimes get a short note so they can help you.”

or

Voice Tutor response: “This is a place to talk about stories and feelings. Grown-ups help keep kids safe, but this is your space to think.”

Children should never be surprised later by how their Voice Tutor conversations were handled.

7. Designed for Language Learning

Voice Tutor was built to support language learning.

Research shows children learn new languages best when:

  • they feel relaxed
  • mistakes feel safe
  • speaking is low-pressure

That's why Voice Tutor emphasizes:

  • repetition
  • encouragement
  • curiosity

Not correction or evaluation.

How Conversation Data Is Used

Voice Tutor conversations exist to support learning and language development.

They are not used for grading, ranking, or advertising. Any data collected is used only to:

  • improve the reading experience
  • support multilingual language learning, listening and speaking practice
  • provide parents with meaningful insights

Nothing more.

Our Commitment

We are not here to expose children's inner worlds.

We are here to help them grow their language skills, confidence with their voice and to help parents support them wisely.

If you ever have questions about how Voice Tutor works or how we protect children's wellbeing, we believe transparency builds trust, and please feel free to reach out to us.

We also encourage families to talk together about the stories children read, what they enjoyed, and what they noticed. Voice Tutor is here to support those conversations, not replace them.
