Data Protection
FERPA-aligned and GDPR-compliant
ReadClub protects student data at every level. Voice recordings, reading progress, and personal information are never shared with third parties or used to train AI models. Your school's data stays yours.
Student data stays private
Student data is kept strictly private. Voice recordings and reading data are never used to train AI models. Each school's data is fully isolated with its own access controls.
Specific data access controls
Only authorized users can access student data: educators see high-level participation insights, parents can view their child's reading progress, and administrators can manage school-level data. We never expose word-for-word conversation transcripts by default.
Custom data processing agreements
During procurement, we'll work with your school or district to establish appropriate DPAs for your jurisdiction. We have experience with US state-specific and EU requirements.
Voice & Audio
How we handle voice recordings
ReadClub uses voice in Read Aloud and Voice Tutor modes. Parents and educators often ask: who can hear my child? Here's exactly how it works.
Private practice sessions
Students practice speaking in a private environment. Voice data is processed solely to provide pronunciation feedback and AI conversation to the students themselves, keeping the focus on learning. Parents and teachers get a high-level view of stories read, questions discussed, and practice frequency, but never the full transcript of the conversation.
Recordings serve learning only
Student voice recordings exist solely to support the learning experience. When retained for speech and language features, retention is governed by your school agreement and our Privacy Policy.
No sale or sharing with third parties
Student voice recordings are never sold, shared with advertisers, or provided to third parties. Access is limited to supporting the learning experience under your school agreement.
AI Safety
Purpose-built AI for language learning
ReadClub's Voice Tutor is purpose-built for one thing: helping students discuss stories they've read, in the language they're learning. Every interaction is scoped, safe, and instructional.
Story-scoped conversations
Voice Tutor stays anchored to the story the student just finished. It prompts reflection using characters, events, and themes, never personal or probing questions. If a student goes off-topic, it gently redirects.
Practice-focused feedback
Voice Tutor uses recasting: responding with natural, corrected forms that model proper usage. Students build confidence through encouragement, with feedback designed for growth.
Built for learning
Voice Tutor strengthens comprehension, supports multilingual speaking practice, and builds confidence. Every feature is designed to help students grow as speakers and readers.
Child Safety
Safe for students of all ages
ReadClub is designed for young learners from the start, with guardrails built into every layer. Students of all ages can practice safely with appropriate parental and school oversight.
COPPA-compliant from day one
ReadClub can be used by students under 13 when deployed through a school with appropriate parental consent and technology waivers in place. We work directly with schools to ensure compliance.
Parent and school oversight
Parents manage learner profiles and can view their child's reading progress at any time. Schools manage class rosters and educator access. No student can sign up independently without an adult.
Age-appropriate content only
All stories on ReadClub are written by real authors and reviewed for age appropriateness. AI-generated content is limited to conversation responses within the story context; never open-ended internet access.
Equitable Access
Providing access to students under 13
Children cannot sign up without a parent or caregiver. Teachers send out invitations to parents to join ReadClub, and parents add students from their account.
Parent or caregiver required
Students do not create accounts on their own. Access is always set up by a parent or caregiver, so every learner has an adult in the loop.
Teacher invitations, parent onboarding
Teachers send invitations to parents to join ReadClub. Parents accept and then add their students from their account, keeping the process simple and secure.
Educator Oversight
Transparency for educators and families
ReadClub gives educators and parents meaningful visibility into student progress, without compromising student psychological safety.
High-level learning insights
Educators receive participation trends, practice frequency, and story themes discussed. These are designed to support instruction and family communication, without turning practice into performance.
The student-educator-family triangle
ReadClub works best when it strengthens the connection between student, educators and parents. Family reports and home activities help parents support what students are practicing at school.
