One story, four ways to read it
Every story comes in its original version plus several simplified reading levels, so it grows with your child.
The original text is the full story with rich vocabulary and descriptive language, ideal for reading aloud together and for kids who are ready for longer sentences.
The simplified levels retell the same story in shorter, simpler sentences matched to your child's stage. Ages 2-6 uses a few short sentences per scene, perfect for first time readers. Ages 4-8 adds simple dialogue and everyday vocabulary for kids beginning to follow along. Ages 6-10 keeps the language accessible while bringing back more of the story's detail, a natural bridge to the original.
Start at the level where your child is comfortable, and move up when they're ready. Hearing the same story told in richer language each time is one of the best ways to build vocabulary in any language.
Original Text: Inkosi Yezinyoni
Abangane ababili, ibhere nempisi, babehamba ndawonye ehlathini.
"Lalela, mngane Mpisi!" kusho ibhere. "Iyiphi leyo nyoni eculayo?"
"Leyo yiNkosi yeZinyoni," kusho impisi. "Kumele siyiphathe ngenhlonipho enkulu."
Impisi yahleka, ngoba kwakuyi-wren encane ensundu nje, engenkulu kunekhowe. I-wren iphinde ibizwe ngokuthi yinkosi yothango.
Leyo yinkosi yezinyoni?» kubuza ibhere. «Ngifisa kakhulu ukubona ikhaya lenkosi. Woza, Mpisi, ungikhombise indlu yakhe.»

»Bear, mngane kaWolf nazo zonke izidalwa ezihamba emhlabeni, kungani uthuke ikhaya lami, iNdlovukazi yami, nezingane zami? Amantshontsho ethu aphatheke kabi kakhulu ukuthi angadla. Yiba nomusa, futhi uxolise ezinyonini ezincane.”
INkosi uWren, imangazwe yilokhu kuzikhukhumeza, yaxwayisa, «Mngane Bear, ngingathanda ukuhlala nginobudlelwano obuhle nawe, kodwa ngizocela amadlelandawonye ami asemoyeni ukuthi akusize uxolise uma kudingeka.
Ibhere, lingathathekanga yile nyoni encane ensundu, engemikhulu kunetshe lomfula, lacela zonke izidalwa ezinemilenze emine zasehlathini nasendle — impisi, inyamazane, impungushe, nezinye eziningi, ukuba zimelane no-Wren omncane.
INkosi neNdlovukazi u-Wren baqoqa ndawonye zonke izidalwa ezindizayo. Akuzona kuphela izinyoni, ezinkulu nezincane, ezeza ukuzobasiza, kodwa nezinyosi, omiyane, nazo zonke ezinye izinto ezinamaphiko.

«Mpungushe, uhlakaniphe kakhulu kunathi sonke,» umiyane omncane, ongemkhulu kunecembe lembali i-forget-me-not, wezwa ibhere lisho. «Ngakho-ke wena uzohola impi yethu.»
«Kuhle!» kusho impungushe. «Kodwa asinafulegi lokusisiza ukuxhumana nabangani bethu. Sizosebenzisani esikhundleni salo?

«Hhayi-ke,» kusho impungushe, «Nginomsila omuhle omude, onoboya obuningi, obomvu njengerosi lasendle.
