One story, four ways to read it
Every story comes in its original version plus several simplified reading levels, so it grows with your child.
The original text is the full story with rich vocabulary and descriptive language, ideal for reading aloud together and for kids who are ready for longer sentences.
The simplified levels retell the same story in shorter, simpler sentences matched to your child's stage. Ages 2-6 uses a few short sentences per scene, perfect for first time readers. Ages 4-8 adds simple dialogue and everyday vocabulary for kids beginning to follow along. Ages 6-10 keeps the language accessible while bringing back more of the story's detail, a natural bridge to the original.
Start at the level where your child is comfortable, and move up when they're ready. Hearing the same story told in richer language each time is one of the best ways to build vocabulary in any language.
Original Text: Kyautuka Biyu Na Aljana
Wata aljana ta taɓa yawo cikin surar wata tsohuwa matalauciya. Dare ya yi yayin da take tafiya a kan hanyar ƙauye. Ta wuce gonaki da dazuzzuka har ta iso gidaje biyu.
Ɗaya, babba kuma kyakkyawa, na wani mai arziki ne. Ɗayan kuma ƙaramin gidan wani matalauci ne.
Aljanar ta yi tunani, “Ba zai zama wahala ba ga mai arzikin nan ya ba ni mafaka.”
Sai ta je ƙofarsa ta ƙwanƙwasa. Ya buɗe ƙofa ya kira da ƙarfi,
“Wane ne a nan? Me kike so?”
“Na ɓace hanya, kuma dare ya kusa,” in ji aljanar. “Ina roƙonka ka ba ni mafaka.”
Mai arzikin ya dube ta daga kai har ƙafa. Sa’an nan ya girgiza kai ya ce,
“Ba zan iya karɓarki a ciki ba. Idan na bar kowane matalauci da matalauciya da suka ƙwanƙwasa ƙofata su shiga, nan ba da daɗewa ba ni ma zan zama maroƙi. Ki tafi abinki.”
Sai ya rufe ƙofar ya bar ta a waje.
Ta juya bayanta daga gidansa ta tafi zuwa ƙaramin gida. Da zarar ta ƙwanƙwasa, talakan mutumin ya buɗe ƙofar ya roƙe ta ta shigo.
“Kin yi kama da wadda ta gaji,” in ji shi, “kuma dare ya riga ya yi. Dole ki kwana tare da mu.”
Sai matarsa ta matsa gaba.
“Ba mu da yawa, mace ta kirki,” in ji ta. “Amma abin da muke da shi za mu raba, da dukan zuciyarmu.”
Akwai wasu dankali suna dahuwa a kan wuta, sai matar ta fito da kwanon burodi da madara. Abincin dare ya yi daɗi, domin an gauraya shi da salama da farin ciki.
Da lokacin kwanciya ya yi, matar ta kira mijinta gefe.
“Mijina ƙaunatacce,” ta ce, “Mu yi wa kanmu gado da kara. Sa’an nan wannan mata matalauciya za ta iya kwanciya a gadonmu ta huta. Ta tsufa, kuma bayan ta yi tafiya dukan yini, lallai ta gaji.”
“Da dukan zuciyata,” in ji mijin.
Aljanar ba ta so su yi haka, amma ba su yarda su karɓi “a’a” ba. Don haka ta huta a gadonsu, su kuma suka kwanta a kan damin kara.
Da safe matar ta tashi ta dafa karin kumallo. Rana ta haskaka cikin ɗakin, fuskokin mutumin da matar kuma sun yi haske kamar rana.
Bayan karin kumallo, aljana ta gode musu ta yi bankwana.
Amma a bakin ƙofa ta juya ta ce:
“Kun yi mini alheri lokacin da kuka ɗauka ni matalauciya ce kuma ba zan iya yin komai a matsayin sakamako ba. Don in nuna muku cewa ina da niyya da iko na taimaka muku, zan ba ku buri uku.”
“Me kuma zan iya nema,” mijin ya tambaya, “fiye da mu biyu, muddin muna raye, mu kasance cikin koshin lafiya da ƙarfi, kuma mu sami isasshen abinci mu ci? Ba zan iya tunanin buri na uku ba.”
“Ba za ku so sabon gida ba?” in ji aljanar, tana murmushi.
“Oh, eh,” mai haƙa ramuka da matarsa suka yi ihu, “hakika muna so. Idan an cika mana waɗannan buri uku, ba mu buƙatar komai kuma.”
Aljanar ta mai da tsohon gidan sabon gida, sannan ta kama gabanta, tana yi musu alkawari cewa sauran burinsu ma za a cika su.
Da kusan tsakar rana, mai arzikin nan ya leka ta tagarsa ba zato ba tsammani. Abin ya ba shi mamaki, domin ya ga sabon ƙaramin gida. Ya zuba masa ido na dogon lokaci.
Sai ya kira matarsa ya ce:
“Jiya akwai wani tsohon ƙaramin gida na talauci a hayin hanya. Yau kuwa akwai kyakkyawan sabon gida a wannan wuri. Ki je da sauri ki tambaya yadda wannan ya faru.”
Matar ta je ta tambayi mai haƙa rami, “Ta yaya cikin dare ɗaya ka sami sabon gida a maimakon tsohon gidanka?”
“Zan gaya muku,” ya ce.
“Jiya da yamma wata mata matalauciya ta zo ƙofar gidanmu ta roƙi mu ba ta mafakar kwana. Da safiyar yau ta gaya mana cewa ita aljana ce, kuma za ta biya mana buri uku. Mun yi burin lafiya da abincin yau da kullum, sa’an nan ta canza gidanmu ya zama wannan sabon ƙaramin gida mai kyau.”
Matar attajirin ta koma da gudu don ta gaya wa mijinta wannan labari.
“Ina ma in bugi kaina!” ya yi kuka. “Da dai na san cewa ita aljana ce! Ai, ta fara zuwa ƙofata, tana kama da tsohuwar mabaraciya matalauciya. Ta roƙe ni in karɓe ta a gida, ni kuma na ce ‘a’a.’
“Abin tausayi!” in ji matarsa. “Amma ka yi sauri ka hau dokinka ka bi ta. Idan ka riske ta, ka roƙe ta ta cika mana buri uku mu ma.”
Mai arzikin ya sa wa mafi kyawun dokinsa sirdi, ya hau ya bi aljanar da sauri. A ƙarshe, ya cim mata. Ya yi magana da ita cikin laushi da alheri sosai. “Ina fata ba ki yi fushi ba domin ban karɓe ki a daren jiya ba,” ya ce. “Na ɓata makullin ƙofar gidan. Kafin in same shi, kin riga kin tafi. Idan kika sake bi ta hanyarmu, dole ki zauna a wajenmu.”
“I,” ta ce, “zan yi haka, idan har na sake zuwa ta hanyarku.”
Sai mai arzikin ya roƙe ta ta cika masa buri uku kamar yadda ta yi wa maƙwabcinsa matalauci.
“Ba zai amfane ka da komai ba,” in ji aljanar. “Me kake da shi da kake bukatar ka yi buri a kansa?”
“Kai,” mai arzikin ya yi kira, “na tabbata zan iya samun wani abu da nake so.”
“To, shikenan,” in ji aljanar, “ka koma gida da dokinka. Burori uku na farko da za ka yi za a cika su.”
Attajirin mutumin ya shagaltu sosai da tunanin burinsa har ya manta ya riƙe linzamin da ƙarfi. Dokinsa ya fara tsalle-tsalle yana harbi da ƙarfi.
“Ki natsu, Bess,“ ya ce.
Amma dokin sai ta ƙara zama mai taurin kai. Cikin ɓacin rai, ya yi ihu,
“Tsaya, Bess! Mene ne duk wannan hayaniyar? Ina fata da ace ki faɗi ƙasa kawai, ki yi shiru, ki kuma zama kurma!“
Da zarar kalmomin suka fito daga bakinsa, dokin ya faɗi a ƙarƙashinsa, ya zama bebe da kurma, ba ya iya ji ko amsa umarninsa. Ba da gangan ba ya yi amfani da burinsa na farko, kuma ya zama gaskiya.
“To, aƙalla har yanzu ina da buri biyu da suka rage,” ya yi tunani a ransa.
Bai ji daɗin barin dokin, sirdi, da linzami a kan hanya ba. Don haka, ya yi amfani da duk ƙarfinsa ya ja dokin, sannan ya ɗora linzamin da sirdin a bayansa, ya fara tafiya gida da ƙafa. Rana ta tsakar rana tana ƙuna sosai. Tafiya da irin wannan kaya ta kasance mai zafi da gajiya. Ya yi tunanin yadda matarsa take cikin sanyi, tana zaune cikin jin daɗi a gida. Duk da haka, ita ce ta matsa masa ya bi aljanar nan.
“Ah! Da ma wannan sirdi ya makale a bayanta,” ya yi gunaguni, ba tare da ya yi la’akari da abin da kalmominsa za su jawo ba. Da zarar ya faɗi haka, sirdin ya zame daga bayansa. Duk da zafi da yake ji, ya ruga gida da sauri yadda ya iya. A can, ya tarar da matarsa zaune, sirdin ya makale a bayanta, tana kuka domin ba ta iya cire shi ba.
“Kada ki damu sosai saboda ƙaramin abu,” ya ce. “Zan yi fata mu sami dukiyar duniya baki ɗaya, kuma fatan zai cika idan kin bar sirdin ya zauna.”
“Kai wawa ne,” ta yi ihu, “me amfanin duk waɗannan dukiyoyi idan wannan sirdi yana a bayana duk kwanakin raina? A’a, a’a! Kai ka yi fata ya hau, yanzu dole ne ka yi fata ya sauka.”
Ba da son ransa ba, dole ya yi fata sirdin ya sauka daga bayanta. Nan take ya faɗi ƙasa.
Mai arzikin nan ya riga ya yi dukkan burace-buracensa uku. Sun kawo masa fushi da wahala kawai, kalmomi masu zafi daga matarsa, da kuma rasa dokinsa. A gefe guda kuma, burace-burace ukun talakan nan mai kirki kuma mai wadatar zuciya sun ’yantar da shi daga damuwa har ƙarshen kwanakinsa.
