Every story comes in its original version plus several simplified reading levels, so it grows with your child.
The original text is the full story with rich vocabulary and descriptive language, ideal for reading aloud together and for kids who are ready for longer sentences.
The simplified levels retell the same story in shorter, simpler sentences matched to your child's stage. Ages 2-6 uses a few short sentences per scene, perfect for first time readers. Ages 4-8 adds simple dialogue and everyday vocabulary for kids beginning to follow along. Ages 6-10 keeps the language accessible while bringing back more of the story's detail, a natural bridge to the original.
Start at the level where your child is comfortable, and move up when they're ready. Hearing the same story told in richer language each time is one of the best ways to build vocabulary in any language.
Original Text: Bukkar Da Ke Cikin Daji
Wani mai sare itace ya zauna tare da matarsa da ’ya’yansa mata uku a wata ƙaramar bukka kusa da daji.
Wata safiya, yayin da yake shirin zuwa aiki, ya ce,
“Mata ta, ba zan dawo gida da tsakar rana ba, kuma aikin yana da nauyi. Ki aika mini da abincin ranana ta hannun babbar ’yarmu. Don nuna hanya, zan ɗauki alkama cike da aljihuna in watsa ta a kan hanyata.”
Sai ya tafi da gatarinsa a kafaɗarsa.
Kafin azahar kaɗan, ’yarsa ta shiga daji. Ta ɗauki tulun miya da ɗan burodi don abincin mahaifinta. Ta nemi alkamar a banza, amma gwarazan gida da tsuntsayen finch sun tsince kowace ƙwaya.
Ta yi ta tafiya har rana ta faɗi, dajin kuma ya fara yin sanyi. Itatuwa suka yi sarƙaƙiya, mujiya suka yi kuka, yarinyar kuma ta fara jin tsoro. A wannan lokacin, ta hango wani haske mai kyalli daga nesa ta cikin rassan itatuwa.

Maimakon ya amsa mata, sai ya juya ga dabbobin, ya ce,
“Kyawawan kaji da saniya mai ratsi-ratsi,
Wace amsa kuke da ita yanzu?”
“Kok-kok! Kok-kok! Kok-kok!” in ji kazar.
“Ku-ku-ru-ku!” in ji zakaran.
“Muu! Muu! Muu!” in ji saniyar.
Hakan yana nufin za ta iya zama.
Sai tsohon ya ce, “Za ki sami komai da yawa a nan. Ki shiga kicin ki dafa abincin dare.”
Yarinyar ta dafa abincin dare don kanta da tsohon nan, amma ba ta taɓa tunanin dabbobin ba. Bayan ta ci duk abin da ta so, sai ta ce, “Na gaji ƙwarai. A ina zan kwanta barci?”
Dabbobin suka amsa da waƙa,
“Kanki kaɗai kika tuna,
Yanzu a daren nan ki huta yadda ya kamata.”
Yarinyar ta yi barci sosai har da kyar ta ji abin da suka ce. “Ki hau saman bene,” in ji tsohon mutumin. “Za ki sami ɗakuna biyu, kowanne da gado a ciki. Ki gyara gadon nan biyu kafin ki yi barci.”
Yarinyar ta hau saman bene ta gyara gadon da ke cikin ɗakin da ya fi girma domin kanta. Sai ta faɗi a kai ta yi barci mai nauyi nan take. Bayan wani lokaci, tsohon mutumin ya hau saman bene. Da ya ga ba a gyara gadonsa ba kuma yarinyar tana barci, sai ya girgiza kai. Sa’an nan, ya buɗe wata ƙofa a cikin bene, ya bar gadonta ya faɗi ƙasa cikin ɗakin ƙasa.
Da yamma sosai, mai sare itace ya koma gida. Ya tsawata wa matarsa saboda ta bar shi yini duka ba tare da abinci ba.
“Ba laifina ba ne,” in ji ta. “Na aike da ’yarmu da abincin darenka. Lallai ta ɓace hanya. Za ta dawo gobe, babu shakka.”
Da sassafe washegari, mai sare itace ya zama dole ya tafi aikinsa.
“A aika da ’yarmu ta biyu ta kawo mini abincina yau,” in ji shi. “Zan ɗauki aljihu cike da ƙwayoyin peas. Sun fi ƙwayoyin alkama girma. Za ta gan su, kuma ba za ta ɓace daga hanya ba.”
Amma da tsakar rana, duk ƙwayoyin waken sun ƙare. Tsuntsayen dajin sun tsince su. Ba ko ɗaya da ya rage don nuna hanyar.
Yarinyar ta yi ta kai da kawo a cikin dajin duk yini. A ƙarshe, ta isa ƙaramin gidan tsohon nan, aka ba ta abinci da masauki. Ita ma, ta kasa ciyar da dabbobin ko gyara gadon tsohon. Yayin da take barci, ya buɗe ƙofar. Sai ta faɗa ƙasa cikin ɗakin ƙasa, kamar yadda ’yar’uwarta ta yi.
A safiya ta uku, mai saran itace ya gaya wa matarsa ta aika ƙaramar ’yarsu da abincinsa. “Kullum tana da kirki kuma tana lura,” in ji shi. “Za ta tsaya a kan hanya, ba za ta ɓace ba, kamar yadda ’yan’uwanta mata suka yi.”
“A’a,” in ji uwar, “ba na so ƙaramar ’yarmu ta tafi. Idan ita ma ta ɓace fa?”
“Kada ki ji tsoro,” in ji uban, “tana da hankali kuma tana da hikima, kuma za ta sami hanya. Ban da haka ma, zan cika aljihuna da wake. Zan yayyafa su a kan hanya.”
Amma sa’ad da ’yarsa ta shiga daji, ba a ga wake ko ɗaya ba. Tantabaru sun cinye su duka, don haka ba ta san wace hanya za ta bi ba. Ta yi tunani cikin baƙin ciki game da yadda mahaifinta yake jin yunwa, da yadda mahaifiyarta za ta yi baƙin ciki saboda ita.
Da duhu ya yi, ita ma ta hango hasken, ta zo gidan da ke cikin daji. Ta shiga ciki ta roƙi a ba ta wurin kwana, kamar yadda ’yan’uwanta mata suka yi. Da aka amince mata, sai ta shafa saniyar a hankali, ta kuma shafi gashin fuka-fukan kazar da zakaran.
Tsohon mutumin ya ce mata ta dafa abincin dare, ta kuma yi haka nan take. Sai ta ce, “Zan sami yalwa alhali dabbobin kirki suna bukatar abinci?”
Don haka ta ba tsuntsayen gida abinci, ta kuma ba saniyar cike hannunta da busasshiyar ciyawa mai daɗi. “Ku ci, dabbobi ƙaunatattu,” in ji ta. “Watakila kuna jin ƙishirwa kuma. Zan kawo muku ruwa mai tsabta.”
Da aka gama wannan, sai ta zauna a tebur ta ci abincin darenta.
Ba da daɗewa ba, tsuntsayen gidan suka saka kawunansu bayan fukafukansu, saniyar kuma ta rufe idanunta. Sai yarinyar ta tambaya, “Ba za mu je mu huta ba?”
Tsohon mutumin ya juya zuwa ga dabbobin ya ce,
“Kyawawan tsuntsayen gida da saniya mai ratsin launi,
Shin wannan budurwa za ta yi barci a nan yanzu?”
Suka amsa tare,
“Ta kuma yi tunanin jin daɗinmu;
Yanzu bari ta huta kamar yadda ya dace.”
Da budurwar ta hau sama, ta gyara gadajen biyu. Sa’an nan ta shiga ƙaramin ɗakin, bayan ta yi addu’o’inta, sai ta kwanta ta yi barci.
Da tsakar dare, ta farka saboda wasu sautuka masu ban mamaki. Gidan yana ƙugi yana tsage-tsage. Ƙofofi suka buɗe da ƙarfi. A ƙarshe, sai aka ji wani babban ƙara kamar rufin gida da bangaye sun rufta. Sa’an nan komai ya yi tsit. Da ta ga ba ta ji rauni ba kuma komai ya yi shiru, sai ta sake kwanciya ta yi barci.
Da safe, rana ta tashe ta tana haskaka fuskarta. Wane irin abin kallo ne ya bayyana a idanunta! Tana kwance a cikin babban ɗaki mai kyau. Akwai madubai a bango, kuma an rufe gadon da kyalle na zinariya.
“Lallai mafarki nake yi,” budurwar ta yi tunani.
Amma yayin da take murza idanunta, masu hidima uku suka shigo suka tambaye ta abin da za su iya yi mata.
“Ba komai,” in ji ta. “Dole in tashi in dafa karin kumallon dattijon, in kuma ciyar da kazar, da zakaran, da saniyar. Sa’an nan dole in yi gaggawa in koma gida wurin mahaifiyata.”
Ta gudu zuwa ɗaki na gaba kuma ta sami tsohon mutumin, wanda aka sauya shi ya zama wani kyakkyawan yarima.
“Ni ne wancan tsohon mutum mai furfura,” ya ce da murmushi. “Wani sihiri ya mai da fadana bukka, kuma ya mai da masarautata daji. Sai dai kawai wanda ya nuna alheri ga dukkan halittu, manya da ƙanana, ne zai iya karya shi. Domin kina da zuciyar zinariya, ina so in ba ki lada. Waɗannan dabbobi uku yanzu abokan tafiyarki ne masu aminci.”
Ya gode mata saboda zuciyarta mai kulawa, ya tura dabbobin gida tare da ita a matsayin abokai masu aminci, kuma ya yi alkawarin farin ciki ga iyalinta, yayin da ’yan’uwanta mata suka zauna lafiya a cikin lambunan daji, suna koyon yadda za su kula da wasu kamar yadda ta yi.
